Sarah Slegers

Art Specialist

Sarah grew up in the Dutch town of Orange City in the northwest corner of Iowa. She graduated from Dordt University with a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in music. Prior to teaching at Victory Academy, she spent over seven years teaching in preschool and elementary classrooms. In addition, she was trained as an RBT in Applied Behavior Analysis and has been a therapist in home, school, and clinic settings.

In 2017, Sarah became a lead teacher at Victory. She served in this role for five years. A lifelong artist, in 2022 she became the art specialist at Victory Academy and absolutely adores sharing her love of art with her students. She believes that everyone is an artist and that it is her joy to help them discover their personal style and preferences. Art education teaches students to do so much more than create art. It teaches grit, cooperation, coping skills, and social connection to name a few!

Outside of class, Sarah enjoys writing letters, watercolor painting, camping, cooking, reading, hiking and backpacking. She has been to every state except Maine and Hawaii, taught in South Korea for five years, and dreams of someday writing a graphic novel.

Sarah loves being part of the Victory Academy community. She enjoys fostering relationships between students, families, and community members.
