Dear Victory Families,
A Special Thanks to all of you who were able to attend Wednesday's Back to School Night. I truly enjoyed participating the first hour as a parent and learning more about my child's school day at Victory. And yes, while I do have great insight into schedules and curriculum materials, it is always wonderful to hear about the day in action. If you have additional questions about your child's school day, please contact the classroom teacher for a short before or after school conference. Effective communication is a goal for the entire Victory staff for the 2013-2014 school year.
I apologize if some of you were confused (especially new families) about information in the packet. If you have questions about service hours, please contact Cheryl DuPreez or me. If you would like to talk further about the tech links, please contact Ashley Hatchett or yoru child's classroom teacher. Thank you!
Please read through the entire Friday Newsflash, as there have been new items and updates added.
Enjoy the Sun this Weekend! Tricia
Friendly Reminders and Items of Interest (New)
1. SCHOOL PICTURE DAY RESCHEDULED! Due to the rainy forecast, starting Sunday evening, Holland Studios has rescheduled picture day at Victory. Please mark your calendar for Monday, October 21st. Students should wear "picture-worthy" clothes on the 21st, as they will have individual and class pictures taken. Picture envelopes went out two weeks ago; please return those ASAP. ***If you have lost your envelope, we can replace it on the 21st. Thank you!
2. NO SCHOOL: October 11th, Teacher Training
Focus on Community Based Instruction (New)
As part of its core content areas, Victory practices Community Based Instruction (CBI). CBI is a time where Victory students go out into the community and practice what they have learned within the classroom. CBI is built into every weekly classroom schedule and includes trips to Lamb's Thriftway, The Wilsonville Public Library, Starbucks, Target, and other local places. For example, students in the Sellwood go to Lamb's every Friday morning. Below, Faith practices weighing a watermelon; she is studying units of weight and measurement in her math block.

Victory's Parent Workshop, October 16th (New)
Hosted by Diane Solomon (Victory Parent and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) and Lauren Corder (Victory's Child and Family Therapist/Social Cognition Specialist), Victory is proud to announce its first Parent Workshop on Wednesday, October 16th. Here's how it works:
1. Wednesday is still EARLY RELEASE for all students whose parents are not attending the workshop. Please pick up at 2:30 if you have not signed up to attend.
2. Send Tricia a private email to sign up no later than Wednesday, October 9th. Staff will continue to work with students in classrooms from 2:30-3:30, during the workshop time.
3. Topic for the 16th: Introductions, Conversation, and Brainstorming Topics for the months ahead.
*Please note: Parent Workshops are not intended to replace teacher or specialist conferences regarding individual student issues.
How to Pay Tuition (REMINDER)
For security reasons, Victory has removed the tuition payment box, originally located outside the main office door. Please send tuition payments to Victory's secure box: Victory Academy/PO Box 428/Tualatin/97062. Tuition payments must be postmarked by the 5th day of the month. Thank you for your understanding.
Conditional Use Permit (New)
We still have not received any word from Clackamas County about the conditional use permit for Victory's future school building. It is expected that the decision will arrive early next week. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome for Victory!
Classroom Newsletters (Reminder)
On Monday, Victory teachers will upload their first monthly newsletter to the school's website. In order to read the newsletter, please login and click on the PARENTS tab at the top of the page.
Staggered Pick-up Times (Reminder)
Thank you to all parents who sent in feedback regarding the "craziness" of pick-up time. In order to decrease some of the traffic during the 3:30-3:45 pick-up window, please attempt to follow the suggested staggered pick-up schedule below. Please know that this is a SUGGESTION. I do realize that there will be glitches, including traffic and the like. I have attempted to think through some of these issues, but I will have missed some. Thank you for trying this together and know that teachers are still prepared to keep students until 3:45 p.m. each day. If we get to about 75% of this goal, I do believe that we will have a safer parking lot for our kids.
Fremont and Broadway: Pick up at 3:30 p.m.
St. Johns, Sellwood, and Hawthorne: Pick up at 3:40 p.m.
Please only park in the front spaces if you plan to pick-up and go. Please use the side lot if you know that you will be on campus longer--either because your child takes more time to exit or if you need to speak to staff or another parent.
