Carissa has always enjoyed working with children, but her path into special education started when her oldest son (now in high school) was diagnosed with learning differences. Carissa spent several years as a full-time instructional assistant at a private elementary school, finding great joy in helping students with special needs. In 2019, she joined the special education program at Portland State University in order to further her education and earn her master’s degree. As a part of that program, Carissa worked with various learning specialists at a local public school.
When not teaching, Carissa lives for her family. She loves spending time with her husband, three kids, and their two cats. She also enjoys playing tennis and taking long walks.
